The Democratic Republic of Congo on Monday reported a fresh Ebola outbreak in the country’s northwest.
Health Minister Eteni Longondo said in a press conference that, four people who died in Mbandaka had tested positive at the national biomedical laboratory in the capital Kinshasa.
The new epidemic has been declared in about 600 miles away from the ongoing outbreak in the east.
The outbreak was confirmed by the WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyeses on Twitter.
Tedros said that WHO already has staff in Mbandaka, supporting the new Ebola outbreak response.
The largest ever Ebola epidemic claimed over 11,000 lives in West Africa in 2014.
