One thing that OnePlus didn’t share earlier when it announced the launch of the OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro are the prices for India. Now that we have the numbers, it’s significantly competitive compared to the US market.
Though the speculated price for the 8 series was expected to touch Rs. 60,000; the announced prices are way lower than that. The tweet by OnePlus revealed that the 8 series would begin at Rs. 41,999 (approx. $550) against the $699 in the US. However, there’s a small catch in the price difference. The Rs. 41,999 model is exclusive to the Indian market and has 6GB of RAM compared to the 8GB US variant. The flagship phones will be available on Amazon India store.
The middle variant of OnePlus 8 with 8GB RAM, 128GB storage is priced at Rs. 44,999, and the top variant with 12GB RAM and 256GB storage at Rs. 49,999.
The OnePlus 8 Pro 8GB RAM, 128GB storage variant would cost Rs. 54,999 and the 12GB RAM, 256GB storage variant Rs. 59,999. The 12GB variant costs $999 in the US.
Both the OnePlus 8 and the OnePlus 8 Pro are powered by the latest 7nm octa-core Snapdragon 865 chipset clocking at 2.84GHz coupled with Adreno 650 GPU. They also ship with X55 modem to support 5G connectivity. They come with up to 12GB RAM and 256 GB UFS 3.0 internal storage. Both run on OxygenOS based on Android 10.
India is OnePlus’ biggest market, where it also enjoys a majority in the premium segment. According to a report by CounterPoint Research, OnePlus has one-third of India’s premium segment with a 33% market share in 2019. It shipped over two million smartphones alone in 2019.
OnePlus has also announced the price of the OnePlus Bullets Z in India. The OnePlus Bullets Z earphones will be available in India at Rs 1,999.
After the launch of the 8 series, OnePlus has slashed the price of its predecessor, the OnePlus 7T Pro by Rs 6,000. The 7T Pro is now priced at Rs 47,999; earlier it was Rs. 53,999.
