To celebrate the occasion of Janmashtami and Global Youth Day ‘the Punjab Smart Connect Scheme’ was launched under Capt. Amarinder Singh today.
Captain along with ministers and MLAs from various parts of Punjab distributed smart phones to financially weaker students across the state.
The total allocated budget for the scheme of about Rs 100 crores was reflected in the state budget for 2017-18. Owing to the growing need for better facilities of the internet and smartphones to the rural population of India in the face of the pandemic, the government decided that this will be the best time to kick start the scheme into action. The phones will come pre-loaded with government applications like ”e-Sewa App” along with the e-content related to Class 11 and Class 12, as per the Department of School Education.
The Punjab Smart connect Scheme is expected to benefit about 1,74,015 Class XII students of government schools during its first phase and will reach its completion by November.
