Olympique Marseille defeated Paris St Germain (PSG) by 1-0 at Ligue 1 champions for the first time since 2011. The match was littered with fouls throughout. However, towards the end, the clash boiled over when rivals from the teams started throwing punches and kicks at each other.
Following the clash, referee Jerome Brisard was compelled to send off five players from the pitch. The members included PSG’s Neymar, Laywin Kurzawa, and Leandro Paredes along with Marseille’s Dario Benedetto and Jordan Amavi.
Marseille manager Andre Villas-Boas was unaffected by the brawl and celebrated the win nevertheless. “We struggled to cope with PSG’s early pressure because they are very good at it, but we found a way to grind out a great victory. It wasn’t pretty and we suffered,” villas-boas said.
He further called the match, “A tough and important win as well as a historic one”.
PSG’s star player, Neymar even claimed that he had been a victim of racism. “The only regret I have is not hitting this idiot in the face,” Neymar who is the world’s most expensive player said in a tweet.
“It’s easy for VAR to show my ‘aggression’. ‘Now I’d like to them to show the image of the racist who called me a ‘MONKEY SON OF A BITCH’. I’d really like that!” he added in another tweet.
