24-year-old, former Disney sensation, Zendaya has made history by becoming the youngest person to bag the EMMYS 2020, best actress award for her performance in popular show Euphoria. The HBO original series narrates the story of a teenager, Rue while exploring themes of sexuality and drug abuse.
The young actress competed against talented counterparts including Killing Eve’s Jodie Comer and Sandra Oh, Ozark’s Laura Linney, The Crown’s Olivia Colman, and The Morning Show’s Jennifer Aniston.
The actress was surrounded by her family members when the announcement was made. “I just want to say there is hope in the young people out there – I know that our TV show doesn’t always feel like a great example of that – but there is hope in our young people and I just want to say to all my peers out there doing the work in the streets, ‘I see you, I admire you, I thank you,” she said.
Zendaya had started her acting debut by featuring in Disney shows such as Shake It Up and KC Undercover. She has further starred in two Spider-Man films and is set to star in another Spider-Man movie next year.
The internet has been flooding with best wishes and celebrating messages since the news dropped.
