The twitter account of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s official website was hacked by an unknown group. The news was confirmed on Thursday, 3rd September. The website and app is known to deliver important information given by the PM.
The hackers had tweeted a message declaring that they had “hacked” the account. The account had reportedly also asked its followers to donate cryptocurrency in the name of the PM National Relief Fund.
The twitter account has now been restored while the malicious tweets have been deleted. “We’re aware of this activity and have taken steps to secure the compromised account. We are actively investigating the situation. At this time, we are not aware of additional accounts being impacted,” a Twitter spokesperson said in a statement.
While the PM’s official account remained off-limits, the website account by the handle name narendramodi_in which has 2.5 million followers was the one that was hacked.
