Political unrest in Andhra Pradesh after TDP leader arrested over corruption

TDP MLA from Tekkali in Andhra Pradesh, K Atchannaidu, a close aide of former CM N. Chandrababu Naidu was on Friday arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) for his alleged involvement the procurement of medicines for ESI hospitals when he was a minister in the N Chandrababu Naidu Government.

Atchannaidu served as the labour minister from 2014-19 in the TDP government and is considered to be very close to party chief N Chandrababu Naidu.

ACB officials suspected that ₹150 crores were misused in the procurement of medicines and equipment for ESI hospitals. Along with local police officials, ACB officials went to Nimmada of Kotabommali Mandal and grilled Mr Atchannaidu for almost one hour.

According to the reports, Achchennaidu resorted to irregularities in ESI where he has issued work orders to a company named ‘Tele Health Services Pvt Ltd’ by receiving tenders in the nomination process. At the same time, the inquiry came to light that Atchannaidu had put pressure on issuing orders in the name of Tele health services. However, ACB officials arrested him this morning after it was revealed that he had a hand in corruption.

The investigation showed that the company quoted tenders 136 per cent higher than the actual cost of the drug equipment. The investigation showed that Rs 85 crore was paid illegally. A doctor has already been arrested in this scam.

Reportedly, earlier the current CM Jaganmohan has called Mr Naidu as the ’emperor of corruption’ and has been taking investigations and actions on the previous government’s suspicious works.
