Actor Sonu Sood has made rounds of the media for his works of philanthropy during the period of lockdown. After helping migrant workers with transportation, providing employment and residential opportunities to those in need, the actor has now pledged to launch an initiative to help “needy” students across the nation.
Sood announced that he will be offering scholarships to underprivileged students from various courses. He also informed that the initiative will be launched in his late mother, Saroj Sood’s name. The latter was a Professor in Punjab and used to teach students free of cost. Further, Keeping in mind the lack of resources of these students, Sood has also promised to pay for their additional expenses such as hostel, food, etc.
“During the past few months, I have seen how the underprivileged struggled to pay for their children’s education. While some did not have phones to attend online classes, others did not have money to pay the fees. So, I have tied up with universities across the country to offer scholarships under the name of my mother, Professor Saroj Sood. She used to teach in Moga (Punjab), free of cost. She had told me to take her work ahead,” Sood told TOI.
