Schools set to reopen in various states starting Monday

Schools in various states are set to reopen from September 12th. All educational institutes including schools, colleges, and coaching institutes were shut down when the nationwide lockdown was imposed in March. States resuming classes include Assam, Jammu and Kashmir, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, Nagaland, Meghalaya, and Andhra Pradesh. Schools falling in the containment zone in these states will not be allowed to resume classes.

The schools will operate at 50% capacity while online classes will also continue. No assemblies or gathering will take place and only asymptomatic students and staff members will be allowed to attend the schools. Congress’ Rajya Sabha MP Ahmed Patel has additionally demanded a task force be constituted to frame guidelines for holding online classes for students. He further urged the teachers to aid underprivileged students.

Earlier, the AAP government had also supported the notion allowing senior class students to attend school whereas, now they’ve decided to keep schools closed till October 5.

India currently has the second-highest number of COVID-19 cases in the world with 5.31M total cases so far.
