Hathras Gang-Rape: ADG claims no “proof of rape”, Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi arrested on way to meet victim’s family

In a new, the Uttar Pradesh Police has informed that the postmortem report of the Hathras gang-rape victim shows that there is “no proof” of rape in the case. ADG Prshant Kumar said that the victim died due to a “neck injury”.

Meanwhile, Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra were detained on their way to meet the family of the Hathras gang-rape victim. Rahul Gandhi has alleged that he was pushed and lathi-charged while he along with Priyanka Gandhi were marching on the highway after their convoy was stopped by policemen.

“Why are you arresting me? What are the grounds for the arrest? Please tell the media,” Rahul Gandhi said during a quarrel with policemen. In response, the police said that the two were detained for violating section 144 imposed on large gatherings. They have further been charged under section 188 for defying official orders.

Visuals showed Congress workers protesting on the roads after which Gandhi’s convoy was stopped at Greater Noida, about 142 km to Hathras. Following the halt, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi climbed out of their vehicle and were seen walking with scores of Congress workers, shouting slogans against UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

“Just now police pushed me, lathi-charged me, and threw me to the ground. I want to ask, can only Modi Ji walk in this country? Can’t a normal person walk? Our vehicle was stopped, so we started walking,” Rahul Gandhi said after policemen were seen pushing him.

Earlier UP police had allegedly cremated the body of the 20-year-old Dalit woman against her family’s will. The move was seen as an attempt to cover-up the lapses in the cases and has since attracted a major backlash.

The Samajwadi Party had also protested at the Hathras border after they were barred from entering the village of the woman. Police have informed that the restrictions have been extended to October 31. No media person has been allowed to enter the village either.
