A 65-year-old retired navy officer, Madan Sharma was trashed on Friday near his home in Mumbai. The victim claimed that the attack was carried out by Shiv Sena workers. In his complaint, the former navy officer informed that he had shared a cartoon of Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray in his residential society Whatsapp group.
Sharma was subsequently called by a man named Kamlesh Kadam who asked him about his name and address. following the call, he was called out of his residence when a group of men attacked him. The CCTV footage of the incident was widely shared on social media.
“Eight to ten persons attacked and beat me up today after I received threatening calls for a message that I had forwarded. I have worked for the nation my entire life. A government like this should not exist,” Madan Sharma told ANI.
The victim had filed a case against the assault and six men, including, a local Sena leader, were arrested by Mumbai Police overnight. All six accused are said to have links with the Maharashtra state government.
The police have however permitted them a bail today. Opposition leader, The Pravin Darekar said, “This is another face of Shiv Sena. They got bail because of Shiv Sena,”. The BJP leader had also visited Sharma in the hospital today.
