Amid the ongoing boycott China movement across the country, the Indian Government has created its official TikTok account. At the time of posting, the account currently has over 8 lakh followers.
What comes as a surprise is, at the time when the government is asking its citizens to boycott Chinese products and start using swadeshi ones, it has started using a Chinese app itself.
Netizens have now started slamming the government for using TikTok and are peealing to delete the account.
The boycott campaign is being executed in so massive scale that TikTok’s rating on Google Play Store went down to 1.2 from 4.4 within a matter of weeks. However, Google deleted the fake reviews and restored the rating. Even after the backlash, TikTok is still one of the most popular apps in India.
India launched its TikTok clone, Mitron, which was soon removed from the Google Play Store for violating its’ spam and minimum functionality policy.
There are also several fake accounts of MyGovIndia doing rounds on the app. They go by names mygovindia20, india.gov.in, mygovindia2, mygovindia4, and mygovindia5.
In order to deepen its roots in India, TikTok parent ByteDance is reportedly looking to set up a second office in the country. It already has an office in Gurugram.
