According to the data provided by the Health Ministry data, India has crossed 6 million cases of novel coronavirus so far. The record comes after a single day spike of 82,170 new cases and 1,039 deaths in the last 24-hours. The data was released by the ministry this morning.
Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu are amongst the worst-hit states in the nation. Together these five states reported 47,758 or around 58 percent of all new cases.
Additionally, so far more than 50 lakh people have recovered from the virus whereas about 95,542 people have lost their lives.
Currently, three developing vaccines are undergoing human trials in India. Drawing the attention to the number of re-infection cases, Union Health Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan has emphasized that the Indian population is still far from achieving herd immunity against COVID-19
