Former IAS topper Shah Faesal steps down as party president of J&K people’s movement

Shah Faesal who had resigned from the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) and proposed the Jammu and Kashmir people’s movement has reportedly, stepped down as the party president of the same.

Currently, vice president Feroze Peerzada has been declared the interim president till formal elections can be held for the post of president.

Faesal had recently been booked under the controversial Public Safety Act along with former CM Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti. He has held under detention post the scrapping of article 370 in J&K which followed his release in July 2020.

According to the JKPM, “Dr. Shah Faesal had informed state executive members that he is not in a position to continue with political activities and wants to be freed from the responsibilities of the organization,”.

The former party president had apparently hinted his disassociation from politics since he edited his personal details on Twitter while altering the references to his political affiliations.

Faesal is yet to make any comments in reference to the news yet.
