Senior Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani has decided to resign from All Party Hurriyat Conference. Geelani issues an audio statement after detailed two page letter, announcing the end of his association with the party.
In an audio message, Geelani said, “In view of the present situation, I resign from All Parties Hurriyat Conference. I have informed all the constituents of the Hurriyat about the decision.”
All Parties Hurriyat Conference is an alliance of 26 political, social and religious organizations formed on 9 March 1993, as a united political front to raise the cause of Kashmiri separatism in the Kashmir conflict.
Syed Ali Shah Geelani was previously a member of Jamaat-e-Islami Kashmir but later on founded his own party by the name of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat. He was an MLA from the Sopore constituency of Jammu and Kashmir three times in 1972, 1977 and 1987.
