Massive blast in Gujurat chemical factory: 5 dead, 57 injured

Five people lost their lives, and 57 more were injured in a fire that broke out following a blast in a tank at Yashashvi Rasayan Pvt Ltd in Dahej Industrial Estate of Bharuch, Gujarat. The incident happened today at about 12 PM.

The death toll is likely to go up as the rescue operation is still on at the incident site.

“So far we have confirmed the death of five employees. Some bodies were recovered from the factory, while others died in hospital. The rescue operation is still underway,” Bharuch Superintendent of Police, RV Chudasama, said.

“The fire has been doused off now. We have evacuated 4,800 people from two nearby villages, keeping in view that highly flammable chemicals have been stored at the company campus. An inquiry will be conducted in the incident”, said Bharuch District Collector Dr MD Modiya to news agency ANI.

Last month, in a chemical leak in Andhra Pradesh’s Visakhapatnam district, led to the hospitalisation of 200 people and 11 deaths.
