FIR filed against News18’s Amish Devgan

Various Muslim communities in the country have filed FIR against News18 anchor Amish Devgan for his derogatory remarks against Hazrat Khwaja Ghareeb Nawaz.

UPDATE: Amish Devgan has apologised for hurting the sentiments of the community.

The famous Ajmer Sharif Dargah is a Sufi shrine of the revered Sufi saint Hazrat Khwaja Ghareeb Nawaz, commonly known as Moinuddin Chishti.

Devgan was heard addressing Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti as Lootera Chisti.

Users on Twitter have accused Devgan of abusing a centre of faith for centuries beyond religious boundaries. #ArrestAmishDevgan is trending on Twitter.

According to History, Moinuddin Chishti was a 13th-century Sufi mystic saint and philosopher who travelled across South Asia, before eventually settling in Ajmer, where he died.

After his death in 1236, the Sultan of Delhi (Tughluq dynasty) constructed a dargah (a commemoration structure constructed around the tomb of Muslim saints, where people from all religions come to pray and ask for favours) that grew in popularity and size over the years.
