The Sikkim government on Saturday wrote to Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal to withdraw an offensive advertisement which called Sikkim and an independent country and clubbed it with countries like Bhutan and Nepal.

The advertisement was published in the newspapers for the recruitment of volunteers for the Civil Defense corps by the Arvind Kejriwal government of Delhi. The advertisement has appeared in a leading English newspaper.

In this advertisement, the eligibility column for the application mentions that applicants should be a citizen of India or a subject of Nepal, Bhutan or Sikkim.

The Sikkim government has demanded the withdrawal of the ad and issue an official communication to assuage the feelings of Sikkim residents. It has pointed out that the ad was very offensive and that Sikkim has been a part of the Indian Union since May 16, 1975.
