The tally of confirmed coronavirus cases in India is nearing 40,000. Record 2,644 new cases have been registered in the last 24 hours. Total death cases stand at 1,301 with 83 new cases reported in the last 24 hours.
Of the 1,301 deaths, Maharashtra has the maximum with 521 fatalities, followed by Gujarat (262), Madhya Pradesh (151), Rajasthan (65), Delhi (64), Uttar Pradesh (43) and West Bengal and Andhra Pradesh at 33 each.
So far, 10,632 patients have recovered from the deadly contagion.
According to a report by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), India has conducted over one million RT-PCR tests for detection of COVID-19.
On May 1, the center announced the extension of nationwide lockdown by two more weeks till May 17. The new guidelines will ease some previous lockdown restrictions zone wise.
Globally, the total number of confirmed coronavirus cases are over 34 lakhs with more than 2 lakh deaths.
