The total number of Coronavirus cases in India has reached 29,435 after 1,543 fresh cases were reported in the past 24 hours. Of these, 21,632 are active cases, while 6,868 have been recovered or discharged. The Union health ministry had said on Monday that the recovery rate stands at 22.17 %.
The death toll also went up to 934 as 62 casualties were reported in the past 24 hours.
With 8,590 COVID-19 cases, Maharashtra continues to be the worst-hit state, followed by Gujarat (3,548) and Delhi (3,108).
Meanwhile, Joint Secretary of the Union Health Ministry Lav Agarwal on Monday said that 85 districts in the country have not reported any new COVID-19 cases in the last 14 days. He further informed that 16 districts in the country which earlier had cases have not reported any fresh cases since the last 28 days.
According to some media reports, PM Modi might extend the lockdown beyond May 3. During a video conference with Chief Ministers, states like Odisha and Meghalaya also suggested extending the lockdown period.
