14 including the pilots died in the Air India plane crash in Calicut

Air India Express aircraft from Dubai to Kozhikode with 174 onboard including 10 infants and 6 crew crashed after overshooting the runway and going into the valley after landing at Karipur Airport. Fire tenders and ambulances have been rushed to the spot.

At least 14 dead including two pilots, 123 injured, and 15 seriously injured in the Air India plane crash in Calicut.

Update: Death toll rises to 18 – DGCA

Commenting on the rescue operations, NDRF DG SN Pradhan said, we must remember that it is a tabletop runway at Kozhikode. There seem to have been injuries among all the passengers & some of them are unconscious. An NDRF team has been rushed to the spot & should be reaching any time there to join search & rescue operation.

Most of the passengers were the stranded Indians left with no Job in UAE. The flight was part of the Vande Bharat Mission bringing back Indians who have stuck abroad due to the pandemic. 

The deceased pilots have been identified as Captain Deepak Vasant Sathe, a former IAF pilot and First Officer Akhilesh Kumar who flew for Air India. The deaths were confirmed to TNM by the Kozhikode District Collector Sree Ram Sambasivarao. The bodies of the pilot and co-pilot are at MIMS Hospital, Kozhikode, the Collector said.
